Chambourcin Weekend October 16 - 17, 2009
Lehigh Valley Wine Trail Chambourcin Weekend
October 16-17: Saturday 10am-5pm, Sunday noon-5pm
Franklin Hill will be featuring our delicious homemade beef stew paired with Chambourcin. This latest release of Chambourcin is our best yet, with a bouquet of black current, cherries and coffee and a smooth, wonderful finish. Klein’s Farm Dairy will be providing us their gourmet handmade cheeses. Fresh apples and apple cider will be available at Kachline’s Farm.
Chambourcin—The Jewel of the Lehigh Valley
The nine wineries of the Lehigh Valley grow over 40 acres of Chambourcin grapes yielding 93 tons of grapes and producing 14,725 gallons of wine in 18 different styles. The styles include Nouveau, Rose, Sweet Red, Semi Sweet, Dry Oak Aged and Sparkling. The Lehigh Valley’s Chambourcin wines have won more than 50 medals in various competitions around the country.
The Chambourcin grape from the Lehigh Valley Wine Region produces cherry and raspberry flavors and often has an earthy characteristic. Our Chambourcin wines also have a fair amount of acidity, which makes it a wonderful food wine because it accentuates the flavors of the food. The tannins are medium in weight, another great characteristic for a food wine because it will not overpower the flavors.
Every year on the third weekend of October, the Lehigh Valley Wine Trail celebrates the end of their harvest season by saluting the Chambourcin grape and pairing it with a variety of other foods. Come join us and taste our local treasure.
